Features of A Planet of Viruses 3rd Edition PDF

A Planet of Viruses 3rd Edition PDF -In 2020, an invisible germ—a virus—wholly upended our lives. We’re most familiar with the viruses that give us colds or Covid-19. But viruses also cause a vast range of other diseases, including one disorder that makes people sprout branch-like growths as if they were trees. Viruses have been a part of our lives for so long that we are actually part virus: the human genome contains more DNA from viruses than our own genes. Meanwhile, scientists are discovering viruses everywhere they look: in the soil, in the ocean, even in deep caves miles underground.

Fully revised and updated, with new illustrations and a new chapter about coronaviruses and the spread of Covid-19, this third edition of Carl Zimmer’s A Planet of Viruses pulls back the veil on this hidden world. It presents the latest research on how viruses hold sway over our lives and our biosphere, how viruses helped give rise to the first life-forms, how viruses are producing new diseases, how we can harness viruses for our own ends, and how viruses will continue to control our fate as long as life endures.

Alejandro Pisanty “Carl Zimmer has outdone himself. This book is clear, compelling, informed, informative, fun to read, relevant, and up to date. His descriptions of the many kinds of virus, the way he motivates you to read every chapter, and the sense of wonder he conveys while he leaves the reader well informed is peerless. The design of the print edition is excellent, easy to read, visually compelling, plus, portable so you will eat breakfast, stop for coffee, and always want to keep on reading and going back to it for reference too. With its visual design, younger students and family members will be tearing it off your hands.
Matthew A. Bille “In the COVID pandemic, many people make decisions without a real understanding of what a virus is and how it works, mutates, and affects humans. In just 100 pages of text, this books explains all that in prose anyone above junior high school will easily understand. Any reader – including those skeptical of vaccines and those skeptical of antivaxxers – can make much more informed decisions with this book in hand. I would distribute this book to every household in America.”
S. J. Ortiz “Get the third edition for the chapter on COVID-19. Read that chapter first and then go back and read the rest to understand how viruses work. It’s fascinating. Well-written and informative as well as entertaining.”
Escrito por un divulgador de la ciencia, este libro se le dd corrido. En cada capítulo, La información se va dando en un contexto histórico, lo que hace muy amena y comprensible la lectura.
