Information feels old and is often vague, embarrassingly even.

Just some examples so you understand what I mean. This is all on a single page, p463.
-It says “a significant number” of people are on 5 or more medications, but this doesn’t really give any information. What is a “significant” number? And for that ultra-soft “fact” it cites a study from 2008 (!!), and the book was published in 2019.
-It has a section about which ethnicities are affected by each condition. In “prescription drug misuse” the ethnicity section is four words, “All races are affected.” A simple google search finds that races are NOT affected *equally*. So what’s the point of this statement?
-Another section says “multiple studies show a higher rate of prescription drug abuse in the 50- to 64- year age group.” Higher than what? It does not say. But if you do a simple google search, the highEST rate of abuse is not this age group.

It feels like it was written (or edited) by people who aren’t very smart. I find myself constantly fact-checking, which wastes too much time. This kind of book discredits the field of APRN.

Many errors

This book was a required text for a class. I like the way it is organized and it is easy to read. I’m bit surprised by how many errors I have seen in the book which include contradictory info as well as just straight up incorrect info. There are also many instances were sentences are repeated in the same section or in another section a few paragraphs later.

I needed this book for school, I do enjoy the general overview however I agree with the other posted review about the book being vague and underwhelming. Since I needed to read it I wanted to use the text to speech function on Kindle but alias this book does not allow that.

It’s a textbook

I bought it for a class. It served its purpose. The layout is standard and I learned as much as I put into it. I do love my little patients, so it was a good investment to learn how to better care for them.

This book is essential for any nurse entering or in the field who cares about their practice and how to treat their patients. Why? Because anyone can walk up to you and say things should be done this way. But if they can’t back it up with proof their words are empty. This book shows you and teaches you how to research and how to intelligently find Evidenced-based practice which means researched to the upmost practice on the best way to do a treatment to prevent a bad outcome. Get the book and Don’t let someone with a big mouth and no brains tell you how to do your job, you doubt and double check everything and make damn sure you are doing it right on your end bc it’s YOUR license, NOT theirs. Stepping off of soapbox now.
