Alex G “This tiny little book contains a stunning amount of info on psychotropic meds. As a clinical social worker who works alongside a team of psychiatrists this is an invaluable resource. Contains many helpful tidbits about lesser known medical/psych contraindications and how to make more accurate psych diagnoses. My only complaint is the limited info on non-benzo treatments for anxiety. Yes, benzos are the go-to but many psychs are leaning away from them because of dependency issues and I think this area deserves more discussion than a few sentences. But anyway, all in all the price/value makes it a 5 star purchase! If you’re in the field you won’t regret this buy.

*A quick aside — this is a pocket guide/primer. NOT a desk reference. If you are seeking a complete psychopharm manual you will need to fork over for Stahl’s prescriber’s text. Around $50-$70 for the 6th edition used here on as of 10/2017 and worth every penny.*

Paul Johnson “Very disappointing. I bought this book based on my excellent with Pharmacology Made Ridiculously Simple. This book does not come even close to it. For starter, even though it is advertised as a pharm book, it barely contains any information on psychopharmacology. It is more like DSM 5 review. It offers only a list of medications and does not offer any guidance in any of the major pharmacological themes. The information does not differ from any other similar book in terms of content or methodology, psychopharmacology content is minimal, and it does not employ exciting or innovative pedagogical/andragogical approach that would make it in any way different from any other similar book. It certainly does not make psychopharmacology in any way simple as its title suggests (“… ridiculously simple”). Actually, I find it less useful then other similar books. Do not recommend at all!
nemesioucr “This book is amazing!! I am an RN going to school to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. This book is concise & is a great tool. I love the charts they include. If you are wanting a lot of depth you will need to get additional resources- but this is an exceptional overview. I have already recommended this to several of my PMHNP peers. Great find!”
Joey L.Top Contributor: Coloring “I’m in PA school wanting to go into psychiatry. I have used the other “Made Ridiculously Simple” books before so I figured I’d give this one a try. This was VERY helpful (much more so than the “Behavioral Medicine Made Ridiculously Simple”) book. It explained the psychiatric disorders and provided explanations of treatments. There was a lot of nice charts for the medications. Everything was straightforward and simple to follow. This is a great resource for any health professional student!
MsT “I ordered this book based on a recommendation from a friend of mine. It was just ok. I have worked with mental health patients and psychotropics for many years (as a nurse). If I didn’t have that background, I guess I would think more of this book. It is well written and easy to understand. It flows logically to this reader. The information is relevant and pertinent. However, I did not learn anything new. I think I was expecting information that was more specific. This book offers basic generalizations and recommends many other texts as a resource for greater details. As a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner student, I find this book acceptable, but not relevant to my individual needs. For someone who has little to no background knowledge on the subject matter, this is a brief overview.
