Features of Essentials of Environmental Health 2nd Edition PDF

Essentials of Environmental Health 2nd Edition PDF-Given the success and positive reviews of the first edition, Friis has kept in tact the features that work well. The author has instead focused on completing a thorough update of tables, figures and data. Major updates: • New chapter (Chapter 14) on injuries • All Web-based sources updated throughout to include the most recent information • Expanded discussion of the history of environmental health, e.g., contributions of John Snow, Lemuel Shattuck, and Walter Reed • New case study on pandemic influenza (H1N1) 2009 • Coverage of recent environmental controversies, such as use of bisphenol A in plastics This best-selling offering from the APHA/Jones & Bartlett Learning Essential Public Health series is a clear and comprehensive study of the major topics of environmental health, including: • Background of the field and “tools of the trade” (environmental epidemiology, environmental toxicology, and environmental policy and regulation). • Environmental diseases (microbial agents, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation). • Applications and domains of environmental health (water and air quality, food safety, waste disposal, and occupational health). With a straightforward, non-technical approach, the author has included many examples and illustrations of environmental health issues. Perfect for the beginning student as well as the experienced health professional, each chapter concludes with study questions and exercises to engage the reader in further study. bulegila “Each chapter consists of a litany of definitions with a few black-and-white graphics added. At first I thought it was a serious book because it contains references. I realized later that the references are almost entirely citations of various dictionaries, including online-only dictionaries that I’ve never heard of, as well as citations of other textbooks and various non-peer-reviewed editorials in obscure journals. The chapters are very short and cursory. It is pretty much useless. Even the preface of the book makes clear that it is written for people with no background in science. What the book doesn’t mention is that it’s written in an incredibly lazy way. By far the worst textbook I’ve ever read. Do not waste your money on this piece of garbage.”

“I bought the kindle version of this book because the physical version was either $124 (no way am I paying that) or sold out. I needed this for class. Giving only 2 stars because I paid the same price for the kindle version as I would have for the physical version but all through the book figures and images are missing due to “copyright restrictions”. I PAID FOR THE BOOK.

TOTAL RIP OFF.

Now I’m going to have to shell out ANOTHER $70 bucks so I can get the rest of the information.”

Luna Tuesday “So… I purchased this with the expectation that it would be the complete book. Imagine my surprise when several figures were “removed due to copyright restrictions”. You CANNOT sell a book as a complete book when parts of it are taken out. should be ashamed.”
Mariah “I’ve used this for 2 classes, one undergrad and one grad. I like that I was able to use it for more than one class and the information is still relevant. The third edition is available now.”
