Stuart Ira Fox

I was born in Brooklyn NY and moved to East LA when I was 3. Realizing that a cosmic mistake had been made, I spent the years between then and now rectifying the error, eventually moving home to the Eastern Sierras. In the meantime I earned a doctorate, taught college, and published several college textbooks in biology, anatomy and physiology, and human physiology. My lab manual and textbook in human physiology have been the leaders since they were first published and are now in their fourteenth editions (McGraw-Hill).
I always loved “what if” stories and have now written two, which so far comprise the Green People Chronicles. The first novel is Becoming Green. What if a new human species were engineered? This will probably happen, and that time may be sooner than we’d like. This is a hybrid work; part science fiction, part medical mystery, part thriller, part romance, and partly a homage to the mountains I love.

Stuart Fox is a professor at Pierce College in Los Angeles. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in Medical Physiology. In addition to his work on this text, he is the co-author of Concepts of Human A&P, Synopsis of Anatomy & Physiology, several lab manuals, and numerous research papers.

Okay I am not certain if I would ever say this however this textbook is a good read. Some of the concepts are explained in layman’s terms, and throughout the book they have these clinical applications that apply what you have just learned in a somewhat medical / health situation. The application portion of the book really allows you to understand what your are reading and how the knowledge can or should be applied… Which is GREAT, especially if your the type that after you have read something you’re asking yourself, how is this information applied in an everyday medical / health setting. Honestly if I had other book assigned to me in class I would still want this book (even an old edition) to break things down to me, that are not so clear in the assigned book… Definitely if you are trying to become a nurse BUY this book and keep it close.
For anyone interested or studying physiology and does not need the latest and very expensive book, this one is perfect. There are color illustrations of everything, charts, special focus boxes, and easy to understand. At the same time the material is very advanced. There is a good balance of complicated material with illustrations and simple explanations.
My 4th physio class and this is by far my favorite book. It’s so simple and easy to understand. For the first time I didn’t rent a book, I actually purchased this one because I loved the way it was written!
