Explore the invisible world of microbiology and why it matters to human life

Known for its unique art program and conversational writing style, Robert Bauman’s Microbiology with Diseases by Taxonomy consistently emphasizes why microbiology matters, especially in health care. The taxonomic organization of the disease chapters (Chapters 19―27) presents microbial diseases by type of pathogenic microbe, helping students recognize shared characteristics among categories of microbes.

The 6th Edition presents a revitalized and strengthened pedagogical framework based on how students learn best. Checkpoints appear throughout the text and direct students to interactive versions of text features in Mastering Microbiology. The interactive features provide just-in-time remediation that helps fill skill gaps and gives students immediate feedback on their progress with the material. New interactive concept maps provide opportunities for students to construct their knowledge and can be assigned in Mastering Microbiology. To emphasize how our understanding of microbiology is constantly expanding, the new edition integrates cutting-edge microbiology research that is critical for today’s students. New Research on Microbial metabolism is introduced in Chapter 5 as well as recent findings on recombinant DNA technology and CRISPR technique are found in Chapter 8.

Robert W. Bauman is a professor of biology and past chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences at Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas. He has taught microbiology, human anatomy and physiology, and botany for over 30 years. In 2004, the students of Amarillo College selected Dr. Bauman as the recipient of the John F. He received an M.A. degree in botany from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in biology from Stanford University. His research interests have included the morphology and ecology of freshwater algae, the cell biology of marine algae (particularly the deposition of cell walls and intercellular communication), environmentally triggered chromogenesis in butterflies, and terrestrial oil pollution remediation by naturally occurring bacteria. He is a member of the American Society of Microbiology (ASM) where he has held national offices; Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA), where he serves in a statewide position of leadership; American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS); and the Lepidopterists’ Society. Top reviews

MrHonest “This is an amazing book. Ignore the bad reviews. You do not have to agree with 100% of the book in order to gain a lot of good knowledge. There is a ton of great information in this book. I would highly recommend it. People always tell me how happy my kids are. They also are always amazed when they hear that they have been sleeping about 8 hours a night since 8-12 weeks old. Honestly the schedule is life changing. The main thing this book is going to do is help you understand your baby. It builds a lot of confidence in that. The more you understand your baby, the more you can mould the schedule to fit their individual needs.”
Willene “I’m only on chapter 2 and already so annoyed. There are so many writing errors that I am legitimately struggling to get through this book. Random capitalization, punctuation that makes no sense, and the rambling! Yikes! I can barely focus on the content because I get so distracted by the writing errors and have to skim to find the parts that are relevant. I’m disheartened I actually paid for this.”
Buy this book. Don’t read the negative reviews. I used this book with both of my babies. They are now 20 and 24 years old! Obviously this advice has stood the test of time. We followed the simple schedule and within a week or two our babies were sleeping for longer stretches. It makes total sense that when their digestive system is on a schedule it will help their sleep schedule. Our children were always good sleepers. All through their childhood, they went to bed without a struggle and rarely woke in the middle of the night. They are also both very healthy and get over colds and things very quickly. I am 100% convinced that it’s because of the healthy and solid sleep they learned as infants…because of this book. I just bought this book for my niece who’s expecting their first baby! I’m so glad I can pass on this great book to her!
Louise “Before this book was ever written, I followed the course of cassette tapes the Ezzo’s put out in the 90’s. I’m so glad I found this common sense information because it made parenting so easy. I was never a tired Mommie. My baby slept through the night at 2 weeks! Really, no kidding! And he slept till 9:00 a.m.! So I could sleep in with him and enjoy him all day, every day. His scheule was predictable, so no surprises or worries. It’s about time Parents be in charge and NOT their babies. In the end, it will make for a happier baby AND Mommie. I just bought this book for my daughter in law who is expecting their first baby. I can only hope they follow the principles in the book.
