She graduated from her first yoga teacher training in 2003 and has since attained advanced teaching certifications. In 2007 she enrolled in massage school hoping to quit the “day job” and hasn’t looked back since. It was in massage school that sparked her love of anatomy. Her first book, The Yoga Anatomy Coloring Book, explains anatomy is a simple and fun way through simple explanations of anatomical form and function coupled with beautiful illustrations of yoga asanas (postures) with all the muscles and bones to color in and help in the learning process. Kelly currently teaches yoga in northern New Jersey and has a thriving massage therapy practice.

MJ “I really wanted to like this book, but I’ve already run into a few inaccuracies and I’m only on page 31. I guess I should have known when even the cover had an error (Adductor Longus vs Adductor Magnus). Unfortunately, I just can’t trust the information in this book. Disappointing.”
Reni “This book gets 5 or-“10″ gold stars.. Being an Exercise Physiologist & Yoga teacher since 1998.. I will refer my students this purchase.-or anyone interested in ANATOMY-(any age)- Anatomy diagrams-(designed for you to color code), are accurate & clear-the illustrations of ALL muscles are detailed. The process of coloring-If that is what the buyer will do- will reinforce learning the name, function & location including origin & insertion. This book is a great way to see what the muscles are doing & where they are in each asana pictured-it is NOT a book describing how to do the poses.. but rather, a good way for a practitioner to locate any weakness, tightness, discomfort or injury they may hope to resolve by knowing which muscle/s are causing the issue & where located & with which adjacent & synergistic muscles it performs. BRAND NEW PUBLICATION GREAT JOB! –published August 7, 2018 by Kelly Solloway (Author), Samantha Stutzman (Illustrator)”

JP “I like that this book is simpler than most anatomy books, even anatomy coloring books. I am updating this review because when I went back through the book for a review, I realized that the pictures on page 46 and 47 are both showing posterior views. I wrongly assumed the picture on pg 46 was of the right leg. It is not. It is the left leg, which makes the picture correct. However, the book still has errors.

If you look at the 2 pictures of the skull, you’ll see the parietal bone showing on the sides from the anterior view and showing in the middle on the inferior view. I’ve written in the correct location. Another mistake I’ve seen is in the descriptions on pg. 37 & pg 38. She shows the connective tissue of the ribs to the sternum as an example of amphiarthrosis joint on pg 37 and as an example of synarthrosis joint in pg 38. I believe pg 38 is correct.

I am just beginning to study anatomy for yoga teacher training. If I can see things that look wrong and I have to look them up elsewhere to find if they’re right or not, they’re pretty glaring errors. These may be the only mistakes in the book. The question is how I, as a beginner, would know. Do I continue to forge on in the hopes everything else is right or do I stop and get another book?

I’m rating this as a 3. The language is easy enough for someone like me to understand. The paper quality is good for coloring. It’s thick and there won’t be any bleed-through. The book gives enough detail for a yoga teacher trainee without going into too much depth. It gives a review of the skeleton and muscles, (although not of the respiratory system). However, there are errors.

5/22 I am updating this again. I am on pg. 55 in the book. I just started to color the muscles. Look at the picture of the top half of the body in downward dog that I have now attached. Look where she is showing the bicep and where she is showing the tricep. They are reversed! I even did a downward dog and had my husband take a pic so I could make sure I was right. Of course, that was only after I’d already done several down dogs. Try it yourself!

This book could be decent if somebody with good knowledge of anatomy would edit the pictures and make sure they are labeled correctly. As it is, I recommend you keep your tablet handy so that you can Google anything that doesn’t seem quite right. It’s probably not.”

Namaste “This is an incredible education for fellow yogis as well as a great way to teach both kids and adults about our bodies and the functions of our muscular system and bone structure.
Was never one to be interested in anatomy, but the creativity of this book makes it fun and interesting.
Thanks Kelly for this most informative book and as the owner or Aurorae Yoga I will definitely be promoting this book to all my yogis.
I showed this book to my son who is a Chiropratic Physician and he was very impressed with the level of detail and descriptions the author uses. He’s going to get the book so he can use it as an educational tool with his patients as he sends many to yoga to help with their back and neck pain!”
